Photography History: At age eight Richard acquired his first camera. The peephole with lift-up wire frame view finder and one speed shutter was all it took to start a life time of fun and adventure. An Argus 35mm camera, then a couple of Pentex cameras with several lenses helped in his picture taking experience. Along the way there was a darkroom time in “black and white” and night school art classes on “light and shadows”. In 1990, he updated to a Canon EOS 10s 35mm camera with several zoom lenses. This left more time to concentrate on the picture at hand. Several new lenses have been added. Film choice is Fuji Reala, ASA 100 speed. Pictures are now being taken with a Konica-Minolta A2 8mp digital camera.
After choosing his subject, he considers the lighting, then selects the lens, no hesitation is made in using a filter. He uses a Hakuba carbon tripod when possible. Aperture and shutter speed are determined, then he composes a full frame picture. Sometimes it takes several exposures at different angles to get “that good one”.
Richard and his wife Jane share time between homes at Lake Tahoe’s west shore and Oroville, California.
