Axis is a balanced line between forces or matter. Axis is to pivot, an arbor, a spindle, a shaft. Axis is also defined as the crux, basis, essence of something. In this image I intend the title, Axis, to suggest the delicate but always pervasive balance between the natural laws of nature. Here the crane balances on his spindly legs in a graceful and stable way. The crane, a great bird of air, water and earth, acts as a connection between it's three different worlds. Perhaps it is a spirit like the ancient people believed. A spirit that could ascend from this earthly plain to the sky, to heaven and descend at will to tell us stories. The firmament sits on the horizon as easy as our eyes find that seemingly flat line. The great birds know how round the Earth is and how deep the sky is.
There is silent poetry between the fish and the birds. The same music quietly played at the shift of the seasons. These hushed sounds tint the colors of the leaves and shade the feel of the wind. There is an axis, a twilight, a crest between the seasons.
