KEN NEWMAN SCULPTURES

Whether sculpting from a single raw form of wood or with clay for bronze, my goal is to create a respect for nature and the struggles of man.  Using a process that involves technique, craftsmanship and design combined with thought, beauty and emotion, I strive to create unique sculptures.

Inspired by my travels and varied experiences, my sculptures are a reflection of personal and societal interpretations of nature and man’s interaction within the environment.  As man becomes distanced from the natural world, I hope to capture a unique view of nature, where personal discovery becomes a focal point.

My sculptural ideas are based on a foundation of abstract designs, complex compositions and story lines. The challenge to create unique and meaningful wood and bronze sculptures and it that is what drives me on my path in life as a sculptor.

PERSPECTIVE ON THE ARTIST

More than 40 years of outdoor experience serves as the inspiration for wildlife artist Ken Newman. An avid outdoorsman, Newman grew up along California's Redwood Coast, where at an early age he developed an awareness of nature and a passion for wood.

Although each of Newman's wood and bronze sculptures captures the essence of its subject, they express his reaction to conditions, forces or people in society. In Ken's sculptures, there is always more than just a beautiful figure of wildlife - the composition and finish - all direct the viewer's eyes and mind to a broader perception of nature and man.

Sculptor Ken Newman, returns to Tahoe for "The Art of the Journey" show. There was daily demonstrations by the artist at Vista Gallery in Tahoe Vista, July 7-11, 2009.  Through August, there will be a special display of sculptures by Ken Newman.
