Skylisium, a new mixed-media on canvas by Douglas E. Taylor.  Image is 29 by 23 inches and is $3,245 with a simple one inch wide and one and a quarter inch deep gold leaf frame moulding.

The two different versions depicted here reveal the difference in appearance that can occur with different lighting and view points from the light source. Taylor’s mixed-media art is created on canvas with many layers of collage, made from fragments of many types and processes of printmaking and Oriental rice papers, combined with many layers and glazes of acrylic painting, including the use of iridescent, iridescent interference colors, and metallics that shift and change with various lighting qualities.

One Whirled

One whirled
Two twirled
And three clung to the tree
Until an unbelievable wind
Pulled and twisted with a persistent bend
Breaking the wood and
Falling as hard as it could
Down and onto the ground
Fast as the bottom is found
Beside the two that twirled
And the one that whirled

Season of the Heart, 5'x6' a mixed-media by Douglas E. Taylor

Season of the Heart, a five by six feet mixed-media on canvas by Douglas E. Taylor.  Season of the Heart was inspired by Somewhere Now

Season of the Heart (aspen grove theme IV), a five by six feet mixed-media on canvas was recently completed for a private home in Stockton, California. Artist, Douglas E. Taylor with Seasons of the Heart

Like the piece described below, Season of the Heart is a collage of various types and processes of printmaking and Oriental rice papers with acrylic painting. Each individual aspen leaf is different, hand-cut or painted differently.

Seasons of the Heart by Douglas E. Taylor, installed in collectors home

Earlier in 2007, artist, Douglas E. Taylor completed a four by five foot commission piece for a private home, titled “Season of the Now (aspen grove theme III).  It is a mixed-media on canvas which is a combination of acrylic painting and a collage of various types of printmaking fragments the artist produces and also subtle collage layers of Oriental rice papers. It was “inspired” by Somewhere WhereArtist, Douglas E. Taylor at work on SEASON OF THE NOW

Taylor’s mixed-media art is created on canvas with many layers of collage, made from fragments of many types and processes of printmaking and Oriental rice papers, combined with many layers and glazes of acrylic painting, including the use of iridescent and iridescent interference colors that shift and change with various lighting qualities.  Seeing an original is a special experience. Taylor is presently working on an even larger commission of an aspen grove, five by six feet.Season of the Now by Douglas E. Taylor nstalled in collectors home

Imagine watching shapes and colors change in the moving sky, water waving reflections, leafs flickering in the breeze. That is what contemporary artist Douglas E. Taylor tries to suggest with his “mixed-media artwork.  He does this through his layers of imagery and texture, his use of iridescent interference acrylic painting and his choice of subject matter.  Taylor’s art inspires wonder with colors that shift and change, creating a sense of animation as witnessed in the magicSEASON OF THE NOW (aspen grove theme III) by Douglas E. Taylor of nature.

Each of his images or series has poetry that accompanies the image. It is his intention that his poetry contributes to the imagery on another level.  Maybe like watching horses run compared to riding one. It is a different experience.  These new artworks are his most layered and involved, as printmaking and as mixed-media pieces, and maybe as poetry.

Taylor has developed his mixed-process printmaking since 1987.  The innovative combinations of as many as eight different printmaking processes creates a rich visual experience and has been recognized with his inclusion in innovative international and national exhibits concerning contemporary art and printmaking. He has lived at Lake Tahoe’s north shore since 1990.

Douglas E. Taylor’s biographical statement

Gicle’e (pronounced zhee-klay) on canvas prints are being printed of the surface top of this stool.  Taylor will be painting and collaging on top of these high-resolution canvas prints. One-of-a-kind pieces will be created in a series, using the metal collage image as an interesting starting point, a inspirational “ground” to build on. ‘Taylor explains, “Rather than starting with a blank canvas, I will be working over a very interesting surface and treating each image very different. This allows me to explore and experiment with the basic image, trying new ideas readily.” This concept is innovative and utilizing the most high-tech advanced processes with very “hand-tech” methods established by this innovative artist.

The images are 16 by 26.5 inches.  See the two images above, Easily Complicated and Tired of Resting.  The below image is the canvas print “starting surface”; the two images were built on top of the below image. They can be displayed horizontally or vertically, with no specific bottom or top.

This image is printed on canvas and is the foundation for the two one-of-a-kind mixed-media pieces (Tired of Resting and Easily Complicated).  Rather than start with a blank canvas, Taylor builds his collage and paints over this image to create a new image. This image is printed through the gicle’e process.
