This is the old whirled
Ancient twirls and promenades with the breeze
Familiar ways of bending the trees
Those first eyes wondering at the stars
Those first feet wandering over the horizon
Those first songs cast on the wind
These old whirled thoughts brought
Whether they work or not
Through the seasons, clung to like good reasons
These old ways held close
Rather than let go
Nothing tried, nothing else to know
A tradition of failure lures us on
The names may change but the wars are the same
They are never too short and much too long
It is the same old whirl
The same old song
Pieces Fitting
Pieces fitting
Naturally falling into place,
Feeling the seasons pass
             with gentle slow hands
That touch deeply and soundly,
almost silent and nearly twilight.
One eye dawn and the other dusk,
Both eyes open to the stars
and closed in their dreams.
Always fitting.
