Art Classes This is what everyone has been waiting for – Nevada Fine Arts ART CLASSES. We are kicking off our new class schedule with some great classes to get the inspiring artist some new skills. Refer to the bottom of the email for details. Please call Nevada Fine Arts at (775) 786-1128 with any questions. Any materials purchased at Nevada Fine Arts for the classes will be discounted 15% off retail price. Drawing What You See- Drawing What You Feel This course develops drawing skills and the critical eye through practice with a broad variety of drawing tools and techniques. An introductory course, this covers the basic elements of drawing and composition—line, shape, value, texture, space and perspective using a variety of subjects—still life, models and the natural world. While we will focus on learning to draw what you see and on composition, you will be encouraged to experiment with a variety of materials and ways of working as a means of finding your own style and ways of expression. Instructor: Naomi Nickerson Thursdays 1-3 p.m. March 20, 27 April 3, 10 Ages: 14 and up/All Levels Cost: $96.00 Class Supply List: · 18x24 Bristol Drawing Pad · Box of Vine Charcoal- varying softness · Kneaded eraser · Vinyl Eraser · Aqua Net · Charcoal Pencil · Chamois Cloth · Stump Oil Painting- Color and Strokes Beginning with the traditional academic methodology, students will be given basic medium mixing instructions, along with an overview of solvents, varnishes, drying oil components and glaze recipes. An introductory course, students are directed to various source materials including various books, websites and other collateral information. At the end of the 4 week course, students will have an understanding of oil paint and various materials utilized to enhance their paintings; they will also understand the slow, academic building process that is one way to make a traditional still life oil painting. Instructor: Naomi Nickerson Thursdays 3-6 p.m. March 20, 27 April 3, 10 Ages: 14 and up/All Levels Cost: $96.00 Class Supply List: · 10 ml tube of Cad Red Medium · French Ultramarine · Cad Yellow Medium · White · Payne’s Grey · Burnt Sienna · Canvas Boards · Brushes · Turps and Medium · Silicoil Tank · 1 spaghetti jar from home · Rags Learning from the Old Masters: Self Portraiture in Chiaroscuro Chiaroscuro, an Italian word meaning “light dark” is a technique that Master Painters such as DaVinci, Rembrandt and Caravaggio used to create drama and mystery in their paintings and drawings. Using toned paper and light and dark drawing materials, students will create a voluminous, mysterious self portrait in this six week course. The instructor will teach students how to create and render an accurate self portrait by breaking the face into basic shapes and creating geometry. Students will also learn how to create volume with a range of values using compressed charcoal and white and grey pastels on toned paper. Instructor: Naomi Nickerson Tuesdays 3-6p.m. March 18, 25 April 1, 8, 15, 22 Ages: 14 and up/All Levels Cost: $144.00 Class Supply List: · Several pieces of good quality toned pastel paper 18x24 · 18x24 and larger clip board for holding paper · 8x10 mirror · 1 box of compressed Charkole · 2 pieces each of white, light grey and medium grey pastel · Kneaded eraser · Vinyl Eraser · Workable Fixative · Chamois Cloth · Stump · A studio lamp with clamps · Small table easel Painting with Pastels This introductory course focuses on pastels. Students will learn how to create a dynamic composition, learn about layering with colors and creating sharp edges and soft, full volume. While this class is primarily an observational drawing class, students will have an opportunity to experiment with different types of papers and a variety of brands of pastels. Instructor: Naomi Nickerson Tuesdays 1-3PM March 18, 25 April 1, 8 Ages: 14 and up/All Levels Cost: $96.00 Class Supply List: · 18x24 Pastel Paper · Large box of Pastels · Kneaded eraser · Vinyl Eraser · Aqua Net · Chamois Cloth · Stump Registration is accepted over the phone by calling 775-786-1128, or in person at the store. Registration is accepted on a first come, first serve basis until maximum class size is reached. Students who need to withdraw from a class after registering may receive a tuition refund less $7.00 administrative cost if Nevada Fine Arts is notified 3 business days before the first session of class. No refunds thereafter. Method of payment: cash, check, or Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. It is recommended to arrive 15 minutes before class begins.
