Vista Gallery is Moving to Kings Beach!

Vista Gallery is Moving

We are excited to announce that we are moving to Kings Beach! We will be closed starting Sunday May 12th, and we will re open in time for Memorial Day weekend. We can not wait to be apart of the Kings Beach community. We will be located in between Jason’s Restaurant and Adrift Paddle, right in front of the Kings Beach State Recreation Area and the North Tahoe Event Center. With all of the Kings Beach Core Improvements happening in the next few years, this couldn’t be a better time to move!

While we will be officially closed during the move, you may still find us at either place and are more than welcome to stop by. Or, please send us an email at manager@vistagallery.com.

Custom Framing for a Memorial

Memorial Custom Frame

A custom framed memorial for a long time local resident, and avid skiier

Custom Framing for a memorial is a unique way to honor someone. Recently we had the privilege to create a memorial frame comprised of 30 years of ski passes! The passes were for the deceased as well as his long time love – which is emphasized in the heart made by the pass lanyards. Nothing but the best for this frame – we used Larson Juhl moulding, acid-free mat boards, and Tru Vue Museum Glass.

We recently installed two photographs by Tony Spiker at The Shooting Star Bed and Breakfast in Carnelian Bay, just down the road from the gallery. In one of the common rooms, we installed “Sand Harbor Sunrise 1.” This photograph is framed using Larson Juhl’s Cranbrook Moulding in black.

Framing for Java Hut in Kings Beach

The Java Hut Menu Board framed by Vista Gallery

Java Hut in Kings Beach recently reopened under new ownership. In addition to a complete remodel, they had us frame several pieces for the shop, including their new menu board.

The picture to the left shows the new menu board before it was installed. We used Larson Juhl custom frames and filled the entire board with 20 pounds of coffee beans!

Here you can see the menu board after it was installed at Java Hut. We used clear Acrylic so that they could easily write on the front and change up the menu as needed.

Make sure to stop by and check them out. Chesley makes a great latte and Morgan is an amazing baker. You’ll probably see us there each morning before work too!

Sten Hoiland’s Wire Sculptures Used to Create a Mountain Scene

Last year, we created a large wire sculpture scene using Sten Hoiland’s skier and ice skater. This year, we created a much smaller version using a backpacker and squirrel! We wrapped the backing board in a linen fabric and then framed the piece using Larson Juhl’s Tuscany moulding. The inspiration for these pieces can always been seen at Rubicon Pizza up at Northstar where Sten’s wire sculptures decorate the walls.

Tahoe Vista Sunsets – December, 2011

The past couple of weeks we have been blessed with some great sunsets over Lake Tahoe. With the gallery being across the street from the Lake, we often run across the street to take some pictures and enjoy the view. Here are several images that Tony Spiker took from the beach!

Vacuum Press Technology – by Tom Beebe

    Vacuum Press

    Vacuum Press

In our times of diminishing wood supplies, woodworkers are called upon to minimize impacts on the environment as much as possible. Accordingly, the use of veneer is once again taking its rightful place as a great choice for fine furniture and high end custom interiors across the country. Veneers maintain the beauty and feel of solid wood while greatly reducing the use of natural resources.

The process of vacuum pressing is simple and there are a variety of systems available in todays market. I use a bag system as seen in the photo to the right.

    Vacuum Press

    Vacuum Press

    The Process:
A vacuum pump is attached by a hose to a closed vacuum bag containing a veneering project. First, as the vacuum is created, atmospheric pressure bears down on the work inside the bag with perfect uniformity and enormous pressure. Second, as the air is drawn out of the cells in th surface structure of the wood, it allows for deep glue penetration. This creates thin, even glue lines and an excellent bond. The results are dependable and consistent.

Below is a picture of a wine rack made using the vacuum press technology.
