Tom McKeever was born in the spring of 1964 in Los Gatos, California. Soon after, his family moved to Benicia, California, along the shores of the Carquinez Straights, where Tom grew up and went to school. He had always admired the craftsmanship of the yachts and cruisers along the waterfront and was able to restore some as he got older.

Tom continued his education at Solano College where he studied metallurgy, learning machine shop and welding skills. While these skills were very interesting and useful, Tom decided to return to his love of working with wood. He then enrolled at the Wood Technology Program at Laney College.

After completing the Wood Technology Program, Tom first worked on refining his skills and techniques under Robert Erickson. After spending 5 years with Erickson, he moved on to different cabinet making shops before venturing out on his own and opening his own wood furniture shop in Benicia.
