Matt Dodge is know throughout Lake Tahoe for his sculpted photographs. “Modern images that celebrate life and hint at celestial glory,” he responds when asked to describe his work. He adds, “I create somewhat instinctively, mixing visual imagery taken from my life in the Sierra, with the swirling abstractions that reside deep within my soul. Ultimately, the finished piece should translate visually the potency of life that I lust.” Part punk, pop and psychedelic, his art is also part past, present and future.
In creating his one of a kind images, Matt employs an assortment of processes. His unique process starts with a snapshot of the outdoor world; he then adds several layers of varying art and graphic techniques which result in one-of-a-kind hand-colored, hand-etched images that create what he terms “sculpted photographs”. Because each piece is finished by hand, there exists a physical quality to the work not found in straightforward prints. The end products, which he terms “sculped photographs,” are one-of-a-kind fine art treasures.
Born in Santa Monica, California, Matt currently resides in Incline Village, Nevada, on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. A snowboard pioneer and former world champion, he remains an active outdoor athlete, drawing upon his adventures to fuel his imagery.
Matt received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
